Trip to Lake Constance
So, we went to Lake Constance for a weekend trip. What could possibly be better than exploring a lake that acts as a border to not 1, or 2 or 3 but 4 European countries?? From Stuttgart, it is a 2-hour drive to Lake Constance!
Exploring beautiful Lake Constance means taking a peak at Germany, Austria and Switzerland and tiny old Lichtenstein. All are so close to the lake that you can easily visit four countries in one weekend. Below are a few great reasons to visit this region and some highlights of the best things to do around Lake Constance.
Lindau, Germany
Lindau is a small Bavarian town, located on an island. Take some time to stroll around the picturesque lakeside town and harbor. You will find the streets and plazas packed with people enjoying. There are many shops and cafes to explore.
The next stop you should visit must be the Zeppelin Hanger. You have to make a reservation to fly. A 30-minute flight over Lake Constance will cost about 190 €, but it is totally worth it. The Zeppelin is about 247 feet long and 57 feet high. You can’t imagine how big that is until you see it for yourself.
Shops to explore in Lindau is Kase Ecke, located at Reichsplatz 7. The store is full of thoughtfully selected cheeses & local products. You can either sit inside or out at the little cheese shop and enjoy a cheese plate.
Next stop is Bregenz. From Lindau, you can take a 30-minute boat ride across the lake to Bregenz.

Bregenz, Austria
One of the most beautiful views of Lake Constance can be found at the top of Pfänder. You can take a ride up to the mountain paradise on one of the Pfänder cable car. At the top you will find a panoramic viewpoint, an alpine wildlife park, and lots of biking and hiking trails. There is also a restaurant at the top (3 actually). If the weather is nice, you can easily spend half a day up there.
Next stop is Vaduz, Liechtenstein.
Vaduz, Liechtenstein
The capital city of Vaduz is only a 30 minutes drive from Bregenz. Liechtenstein is a principality. It is very small i.e. only 25 km long. There are plenty of things to do even for a day, but it’s packed with exciting things to see and do. Basically it is known for its mountains and forest landscapes, medieval castles, and tiny villages that are linked together by hiking trails.
You must visit and admire the Vaduz Castle perched high up on the hill. To get into the castle, one has to cross over a wooden bridge. The bridge rumbles and the noise echoes into the valley, sounding like thunder. This was designed such that whenever the prince was home late at night, an entire town knew about it. Strange right?
Rorschach, Switzerland
Rorschach is about a 35-minute drive from Vaduz. The important port city of Rorschach lies between the gentle hills of the Appenzellerland and the expanse of the lake. It is on the south side of Lake Constance (Bodensee).
A getaway to Lake Constance to the picturesque harbor town of Rorschach in the southernmost bay of Lake Constance is like a dream come true for holidaymakers. Locals and tourists alike are drawn to the breathtaking waterfront promenade.
The real landmark of Rorschach is the Kornhaus, which opened in 1749 and is the most beautiful granary in Switzerland. Abbot Coelestin of St. Gallen commissioned the builder Caspare Bagnato to build it in 1746. Today the museum with its remarkable testimonies from the history of the city and the seascapes is located in the Kornhaus.
As you can see, the Lake Constance region is full of incredible thing to do and see. It’s the perfect place for a glimpse into four European countries at once. I hope you get a faint idea on what things to see when you plan a trip. Good Luck!
